Welcome

Quenby Rest Home is a residential care home for the elderly and is registered for dementia care. Situated near to the idyllic town near Colchester in Essex called Brightlingsea (Winner of Best small town (2000)), the home is only a mile away from the River Colne. The landscaped rear garden overlooks an animal sanctuary.

Quenby is part of a group which comprises a residential care home and a domiciliary care agency in London. The Management has over two decades of experience in the Hospitality and Care Home sector.

Quenby’s standard of accommodation and service level will match the expectations of the most discerning resident. Quenby has been registered to accommodate 26 people and offers 24 single bedrooms and one large double room. All bedrooms have an en-suite pedestal basin and emergency call bell system.

The home has one large lounge area on the ground floor overlooking the garden plus a smaller lounge area in the middle part of the accommodation. A large dining area is available at the front end of the home.
The home has a 4-person passenger lift allowing easy access to both floors. All communal areas of the home are tastefully decorated and we actively encourage residents to select their own décor for bedrooms if they require decorating. Nearly ninety percent of the rooms are on the ground floor.

Staff are recruited only after a thorough vetting process which includes a Criminal Records Bureau check. Both internal and external training are offered to the staff. Most importantly, all staff are provided Alzheimer’s Society accredited ‘Dementia Training’ by our Training Manager. Other internal training includes: infection control, food hygiene, manual handling, Dignity in care, Abuse etc. Perhaps, Quenby is the only home in the vicinity to have nominated ‘Dignity Champions’ within its care team.

It is possible that Quenby is one of the few homes in the area that boasts of a dedicated Quality Assurance Department.
The home is working towards an ISO 9001:2000 quality accreditation.

Quenby makes every effort to accommodate all tastes and preferences when planning menus with the assistance of residents. It offers alternative meals on a daily basis, which the cook prepares ensuring that meals are balanced and nutritious.

The home fully understands the importance of the caterer keeping in touch with the residents’ likes, dislikes and choices: that is why the cook hosts the menu planning sessions with those who wish to be involved. Residents who do not wish to be involved in menu planning will be consulted on an individual basis to incorporate their views.

Residents are encouraged and are given support to pursue their interests and hobbies. The home boasts a full-time activities coordinator. Quenby arranges entertainers to visit the home at regular intervals in a month. Activities are not restricted to be provided only by the activities coordinator but in fact all staff promote participate and encourage activities for residents within the home. There is a selection of games, memorabilia, and equipment specifically suited to people with sight and hearing impairments. Quenby also has a dedicated ‘Crafts room’ for residents including a internet ready personal computer for web-savvy residents!

Quenby already provides a selection of reminiscence sessions, quizzes, news-sheets and games that provide mental stimulation and help to retain short-term memory. The home hosts a variety of events, including fund-raising events for local charity groups, on a regular basis that allows residents to remain involved with the local community. Quenby organise regular excursions and support independent outings if required.

Quenby operates an open visiting policy and welcomes visitors throughout the day. It  recognises the importance of privacy during visits and the staff assist with the private area should the resident or their visitors wish so.

Quenby is situated close to Brightlingsea, a small town located on the N E Essex Coast, some twelve miles from Colchester (to the North West) and Clacton-on-Sea, to the East. It has a resident population of 8,500 inhabitants.

The town boasts many attractions including: All Saints Church; an historic and impressive structure, built ca. 1250, with a near 100 ft tower, higly praised by Pevsner.  Cinque Port and Seafaring links, excellent local views & walks.

There is also the East Mersea Passenger Ferry, Brightlingsea Sailing Club, Local Sports Facilities, Brightlingsea Farmers Market and Community Centre and 'Springmead' - Brightlingsea's Secret Garden (Landscaped Gardens open, free-of-charge, to all.
